The June/July issue of Details magazine arrived yesterday and one of my favorite sections is called "Know + Tell: Numbers, nomenclature, and news for the conspicuously clued-in." Here are a few things from this section.
- 4 cents: Amount owed to the government by a Sacramento car wash because of a tax-return error.
2: Number of IRS agents who hand-delivered the letter informing the owner of the debt.
- 11: Number of years an Egyptian family communicated by pencil and paper after finding a listening device in their aparment. After finally getting specialist to investigate, they discovered that the bug had never worked.
- 5: Number of years a Michigan man suffering from sinus cancer and an inoperable brain tumor worked at Waltmart before being fired for testing positive for marijuana prescribed to him by his doctor.
- NotARealThing.com: A website that catalogs the fictional places, products, and organizations created for movies, TV shoes, and other visual works- think Schrute Farms from The Office or Red Apple cigarettes from Pulp Fiction.
